The Royal Pavilion

The Prince Regent, later George IV, was particularly fond of Brighton and visited it frequently from the mid 18th to the early 19th century (when found guilty of adultery he was prevented from returning by his wife, Queen Charlotte). The Royal Pavilion was created for him by John Nash as an exotic, oriental palace in what was then a remote fishing village. Today this spectacular building is one of the most popular attractions in Brighton and Hove.

A fun thing to do with kids. The Royal Pavilion is my favourite building in Brighton. I've had the opportunity to go inside it, and believe me, it looks even better from the inside than outside. It's also a great place for kids - no boring 70s museum style here! My kids absolutely loved it too, and as a parent I liked that all the history was presented as a story which kept their attention.

The Royal Pavilion Brighton : A very beautiful Victorian palace which was the city residence of the Prince Regent (the future King George IV). He commissioned John Nash to create a luxurious seaside retreat for him, during the years 1815-1822. In the 1970s, it became a museum and is now one of Brighton’s main tourist attractions. The Royal Pavilion in Brighton has to be on your list of things to do in Brighton and Hove if you haven’t been already.

It’s a remarkable building and is probably one of the most famous buildings in England - even more so than Buckingham Palace or the Houses of Parliament, I would say. The Prince Regent enjoyed Brighton and frequented the town with his mistress, Maria Barresi. In 1815 he gave instructions for the construction of a splendid pavilion to overlook Brighton's Marine Parade.  The Royal Pavilion was built between 1815-22 during the reign of George IV. With over 150 species and 57 displays, you will be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable day for the whole family.
